Global Sailing was founded by Haluk Karamanoglu in 2002. After completing their circumnavigation as a family with two small children onboard S/Y Deriska (1988-1993), they have settled in the village of Karacasogut, Gokova.
During their 5 year trip and 42.000 nautical miles covered, Haluk Karamanoglu and his wife, Chris had a chance to observe the different sailing clubs and schools around the world and realized that they would like to do something similar when they get back to Turkey to introduce more people into sailing.
In order to do so they have established Gokova Sailing Club in Karacasogut and started teaching Optimist and Laser sailing to local children.
Over the years they have further improved the facilities of their base and started offering summer sailing courses for children from all over Turkey and a marinette for cruisers where they could cater for all their needs. Having sailed around the world, they were well aware of the needs of fellow cruisers.
To be able to answer the popular demand from the parents of the children who attended their courses, they have decided to form a small luxury yacht fleet and offer yacht charters as well. They have purchased 6 brand new Harmony yachts for those who want to go bareboat sailing, and 6 Skippi Performance Cruiser 750’s for those who wish to enjoy the facilities of the base while going out for day sails or match races.
Today, Gokova Sailing Club has a very successful racing team with many national and international achievements (Gokova Race Team), a hugely popular summer sailing school for children which accommodates and teaches sailing to 150 kids each summer (Global Sailing Academy) and a brand new fleet of yachts to offer charters (Global Sailing) in the most unspoilt sailing ground in Turkey, the Gulf of Gokova.
